By Mike Krantock | November 19, 2008

If your roof needs repair, you gather all of the tools you need before you climb up the ladder. Why would you want to end up on your roof, ready to get started, and find that you did not bring all of the necessary tools along, and would have to start from the beginning again.

What does this have to do with stop smoking? Well the answer is very simple- tools. You want to improve you quality of life, get rid of that bad breath and improve your appearance. You want to feel confident when you speak to people. But most of all you want to improve your health. You need the proper tools to repair yourself the same as you do to repair your automobile.

Many experts have come to the conclusion, that the more tools the better. Some of the tools in your toolbox may be: Herbal Products. Nicotine Patches. Nicotine Gum. Smoking cessation program. These are just a few to mention. The more tools you have in your toolbox will greatly increase your progress and eventually lead to your success.

A journal will make your toolbox complete and the benefits keeping a journal are substantial. When you begin the process to stop smoking you should consider including a journal to your toolbox and making it part of your program. A toolbox is not complete until you add a journal to it.

1. You will start to experience a variety of emotions when you start the process to stop smoking. Journaling can lessen the effect of some of these emotions. This may include anger, frustration, anxiousness, and others.

Second, journaling alone can be used as a healthy alternative to the act of smoking. When you would normally be smoking a cigarette, you can instead take a few minutes to write some thoughts or ideas into your journal.

Third, Journaling will help you track your progress and monitor your stop smoking efforts. For example, the journaling process will help you identify weak moments throughout the day. You can focus on staying away from cigarettes at these times of the day.

At the finish, you will realize the benefits of journaling are enormous and you will be very happy that you added a journal to your toolbox at the start of your stop smoking program and process

Chantix, is it really a magic pill?

By Chris James | November 19, 2008

Chantix has been found to be one medication that has finally helped people to quit smoking when others have failed. Working like a nicotine blocker in the brain, it attaches itself to the nicotine receptors and blocks its absorption. And because there are fewer feel good receptors that the nicotine can freely attach itself to, it lessens the desire you have for a cigarette.

Using this method has helped many people quit without difficulty. Not only that, it has helped a lot of them quit without severe withdrawal symptoms. Even long term, multiple pack a day smokers have found themselves to be successful. One thing you need to do however, is first check to see if your insurance company will cover the cost as many nowadays are reluctant to pay for smoking cessation products.

The first two weeks of taking Chantix are simply to allow the medication levels to build up in your system. However, since Chantix contains no nicotine, quitting smoking before you start taking it it not necessary.

Is recommend that you have a quit day toward the end of the two weeks, although there are people that have extended it up to three weeks, allowing the medication to build up further in their system.

There are several side effects that have been experienced, but this can vary greatly from person to person, and are normally temporary. Extremely vivid dreams are most notable especially during the first few weeks of using the medication, as well as excessive gas, nausea and in some cases headaches.

To help with your efforts, Chantix even comes with a very good free online support system that not only sends you daily emails to keep you on track, but also provides stop smoking projects to help remind you as to why you wanted to quit in the first place.

Chantix in itself works very well, however it may be more effective on smokers who are physically addicted to nicotine as opposed to those psychologically addicted as it seems to work much better on the former. Talk to your doctor and see. If you are more psychologically addicted, they may have a different medication which they would recommend for your situation.

Whatever you do, do not think that Chantix, or any other stop smoking aid for that matter, is the magic pill that is going to make you quit. Only medications used with a strond desire to quit have a chance of being successful. The medications, Chantix included, are only there to give us an edge in quitting, not do it for us.

NLP Hypnosis: How Do NLP And Hypnosis Work Together?

By Joel Chue | November 17, 2008

On the surface, NLP and hypnosis are very similar in many ways but when you dwell into the two subject matter with more depth, you will find that both of these topics are involves two different concepts entirely. Neuro -Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a scientific method used by many psychotherapists to modify behavioral patterns. It is a widely adopted methodology within the field of psychology.

The techniques of NLP find great usage in fields such as business and industries. It is also greatly used by advocates in various training activities, workshops ad also knowledge dissemination program. These workshops are essentially used in order to influence the other person’s views and perception. The underlying principle here is that with the acquisition of new knowledge and ideas there are also suitable change and modifications in a persons attitude and behavior.

Hypnosis takes on a different approach in respect to behavioral patterns changes. It is quite an unconventional method used but gaining in popularity in recent times. Hypnosis works by affecting the mind on a subconscious level. When an individual is put into a trance, His mind become more receptive to suggestions made by the hypnotist. Hypnosis have long been regarded as a mystic art practiced by mystic. It is only recently that the status of hypnosis has risen slowly to becoming a science adopting scientific and objective approaches. Research has also show that hypnosis is a daily and common occurrence. We actually drift in and out of trances without realizing it especially in front of the television.

Now the question that arises is, can we combine the two alike process NL and hypnosis? And if yes, what will be the significance? The answer is that the mixture of these two principles will lead to a better facilitation of knowledge and skill dissemination. In fact, there are many training sessions that involve the techniques of both the processes. By combing the two processes we can actually control the conscious and the sub-conscious state of mind. The end result of the combination is almost always positive.

Hypnosis is an unconventional method, wherein a person is motivated to do certain things and is also made to recall memories that are hidden in the deep traces of our minds.

It is important that when you are planning a workshop using these techniques to consider only hiring professional who are experts in this area. Hypnosis involves dealing with a person’s sub conscious mind and as such is extremely delicate matter to handle. This may call for more investment and research on your part but for the good of the participants, it is an ethical thing to do.

NLP Hypnosis: The Benefits

By Joel Chue | November 15, 2008

Hypnosis beside from being used as a tool for treatment of certain ailments, which requires behavioral changes, has also been used for entertainment. When it is used for entertainment, it is called a hypnosis show. The effect of hypnosis show is not lasting. It actually last until the show is over.

While performing hypnosis in front of a large number of people it is important that the hypnotist chooses his topic wisely. He has to be extremely careful about picking up people from the audience to put in a trance. Once the person is in a trace, the hypnotist can plant any idea or suggestions in the mind o the said person.

Just like when hypnosis is used for therapy, for the hypnosis show, the hypnotist also requires the total cooperation of his volunteer for him to be able to put the volunteer under a trance. To help the hypnotist pick out suitable candidates for his show, he has to choose those who will listen to his command. By using a process call induction, he can tell from the audience who are more susceptible to his command. For example, he will ask the audiences to close their eyes and listen to his command. From this action, it is easy to see the willing participants from those who are not cooperative.

A person who resists the command of the hypnotist will never be selected. Any person who is sitting very alert in the audience is one such person. Any person who seems willing to participate in the performance of the hypnotist is the perfect volunteer.

When the hypnotist calls the willing volunteers onto the stage, this is when the actual show starts. One technique, which the hypnotist employs while calling upon the volunteers onto the stage, is to put a smaller number of chairs than participants on the stage. By doing so, this will create a competition among the volunteers.

Once under a trance, the hypnotist can command the volunteers to do whatever he wishes with them. The volunteers will totally be under his command as if they are sleeping. He can make the volunteers think that they are intoxicated. Or he can also make them think that they are from another planet speaking an unknown language. The volunteers will actually starts speaking in an unknown language. However, once the show is over, they will awaken from the trance and will show no effects or have any recollection of what just happened.

NLP Hypnosis: Defining Clinical Hypnosis

By Joel Chue | November 15, 2008

Clinical hypnosis is the interaction of a hypnotist with the sub-conscious mind of the person being hypnotized, which plays an integral role in his treatment. In most cases, only qualified physicians can perform such hypnosis since they have the required knowledge about the mental state of a patient at a given time.

Of late, clinical hypnosis has assumed tremendous importance in view of the fact that people visit trained hypnotists to tackle their problems like smoking, drinking and various others. This method of hypnosis at a clinic is proved to be successful to control obesity as well.

Most of us believe that hypnosis is a process in which the hypnotist whitewashes the patient’s brain and gives the brain a kind of a new beginning. It is not so. Hypnosis involves a huge time to show effects, and requires total co-ordination and co-operation from the person who is being treated. It is for this why the attitude of the patient is very important for proper treatment. In many cases, quite some sittings are required to achieve what the hypnotist had set out for. It all depends on the patient’s willingness to co-operate and accept the various positive suggestions that the hypnotist may recommend, and more positive the patient’s attitude, more sooner can the goal be achieved. For patients who wish to get rid of bad habits like smoking and drinking, extreme patience from the side of the patient is required for the result to be achieved.

The term therapeutic hypnosis refers to a situation where a trained hypnotist treats a patient using hypnosis. In contrast, self-hypnosis refers to a situation where hypnosis is self-induced by a subject learning the skills through reading books or watching CDs tutorials. In clinical hypnosis situations, the hypnotist has a clear understanding of the patient’s mental health and act accordingly. Therefore, when seeking treatment using hypnosis, it is important to select an expert hypnotist who has a clearer picture of what needs to be done.

Most people who wish to quit their habits of drinking and smoking opt for this kind of treatment. It is believed that a chunk of the income that hypnotists get is from patients who wish to get rid of their smoking and drinking habits. Presently, there is not enough material to support the treatment of serious diseases like diabetes, cancer, etc., by hypnosis, but hypnosis can surely be used by cancer patients to lessen the pain that they experience.

Hypnotize Anyone Secretly And Get Them To Do What You Want

By Arthur Xavier King | November 14, 2008

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hypnotize anyone just by talking to them? Imagine talking to someone in a regular conversation and getting them to do something that they had no intention of doing. Does this sound like magic or fantasy?

OK, so how would you actually hypnotize anyone just by talking to them? well, the answer is…secretly! Alright, a better answer would be subconsciously, which for the purposes of this article simply means outside of someone’s conscious awareness.

What I mean by hypnosis is literally going up to an individual, whether it’s a complete stranger or someone you know, and talking to them just like you would with anyone else that you talk to on a daily basis. The difference is that in these hypnotic conversations you would be using the same language patterns and hypnotic techniques that are used in traditional hypnosis, but you would use them in a conversational way. And although the person you were speaking with would consciously hear every word of the conversation, the subconscious hypnotic commands that you would use would fly completely under their radar.

Is it possible to influence the subconscious mind without the conscious mind knowing it? In an experiment developed by psychologist John Bargh a group of subjects were asked to make a four word sentence out of five words as quickly as they could. Try this yourself:

1. throw John gray the ball

2. sunny gray is always Florida

3. learn tricks dogs old wrinkled

Seems pretty simple, right? What’s interesting about this is that when the subjects left the office after completing this exercise, they actually walked more slowly out of the office than when they walked in. Their behavior actually changed as a result of completing these sentences. Why? Because sprinkled throughout these sentence fragments are the words “gray”,”Florida”, “old”, and “wrinkled”.

What made the subjects act like this? Well, sprinkled within the sentence fragments are the words ‘old’, ‘gray’, ‘Florida’, and ‘wrinkled’. And the effect that these words had made the subjects behave in a way that represented ‘old’. And because the subjects felt old they acted accordingly, hence the slower time leaving the room than entering it.

The point is, these subjects had no idea that they were acting any differently than they would normally act, and yet they didn’t even realize that they had changed their behavior. They thought that they were just making sentences out of a bunch of random words, when in reality they were being influenced in a way that they weren’t even aware of. Such is the power of activating the subconscious mind.

The gentleman generally regarded as the father of modern psychological hypnosis is Dr. Milton Erickson, a world renowned medical doctor and therapist. Erickson developed his ability to hypnotize anyone to such a high degree that he could literally hypnotize anyone just by talking to them or telling them a story. Of course, the patient or listener would hear the story consciously but be completely unaware of the subconscious commands and suggestions that Erickson was planting into the story.

How hard would it be to hypnotize anyone in a conversation without their awareness? well, if you could engage the ’subject’ and get them to concentrate on one part of your conversation, you could sneak in (using regular everyday words) hypnotic suggestions and commands that would completely bypass their conscious mind. Then you would only have to decide what you wanted them to do and then ‘hypnotize’ them to do it!

What if I Relapse When Trying to Quit Smoking?

By Darren Warmuth | November 14, 2008

First of all, just talking about relapses can be dangerous because once the thought of slips enters the mind it is difficult to get rid of it, and you unconsciously will it to happen. Have you heard the story of a boy trying to learn cycling? He was so scared of hitting against the stone on the road that on a wide road he saw only the stone and banged right into it.

The moral of the story is that if you think of handling ’slips’, ‘just ones’ or any ‘accidents’ for that matter, you are going to have them. So, don’t plan for slips; you probably won’t allow them. The thought itself is a great morale booster. So, think positive, and cross the bridge when you come to it. On the contrary, planning for moments of weakness demoralizes you quite a bit.

Having said that, it does happen, so here is what I recommend you do. Chastise yourself until you feel completely guilty. Realistically I don’t have to tell you this part because you will automatically do it to yourself anyway. Then once you have raked yourself over the coals, contact your support group (you do have a support group, don’t you?) and let them know what has happened. Use their strength to rebuild your resolve.

Most importantly, be honest with yourself, especially if you have had more than one ’slip’. Look at the problem straight in the eye; don’t fool yourself that these occasional slips are fine and are just part of the normal quitting process because they aren’t. A slip is a slip and has to be handled as one. Reprimand yourself for a moment’s weakness that leads to hours, if not days, of guilt. Let it sink in deep enough so that it crops up when you feel tempted again.

But, change your strategy this time around. First prepare yourself with as much information as possible. Make a note of your strengths and weaknesses. Use your strengths to your advantage and learn to handle your weaknesses. You will find ample information on the net. Study it with a view to tackling your specific problems. If you go about it the right way, you will not only succeed in achieving your goal of quitting smoking, but you will do it in record time.

If continual slips are occurring, you are better off to realize what is happening and admit to yourself that you have failed this time. And that’s okay, because it is better that you admit it, write this attempt off, and go back to finding the information and incentives you need to quit successfully than to relapse slowly back into oblivion. Better to realize that you have missed your target this time around and get back on a new and better course than to continue on smoking for the next twenty years.

Have the mental strength to be successful.

By Darren Warmuth | November 13, 2008

Today you’re going to do those badly needed repairs to your roof. You start by putting all your tools and supplies together. You do this before you climb up the ladder onto the roof. Improving health is the most common reason people try to quit smoking. When you decide to take a go at it, you must have the proper tools to get the job done.

Where do I start? The common approach for most people is the patch, while others favor herbal products. Some experts believe a combination of more than one tool will increase a person’s odds of quitting. Along with medicines are services available to assist with the smoking cessation process. Are You Sick of Your Smoking Habit?

By Darren Warmuth | November 13, 2008

What would you do when your house is on fire? Would you sit and think, plan and come up with a solution or just jump out of the window? But the truth is that unless you consider your smoking habit as dangerous as a house on fire, you are not going to jump. That is for sure. So, the obvious answer to the question ‘what to do when you are sick of smoking?’ would be - just quit! But this answer you’ve already heard from Many who don’t smoke or those who have never successfully quit themselves.

Here is some advice from a smoker of twenty years and a non-smoker of ten.

Though for you to come to this point of wanting to quit smoking may be a major breakthrough in your life, you need to know that the desire to quit alone is not strong enough for you because it is not enough for most people - 97% to be precise. So, unless you belong to that minuscule minority, don’t do it, even if you are desperate and want to quit right at this very moment.

If you belong to the majority, you need to think, plan and use a strategy to get rid of an old habit.

It is important that you write down all the emotions and reasons you want to quit while in this heightened state of awareness, but it is equally important that you only use those reasons to help you on your journey to becoming a non-smoker - not to try and keep yourself wound up.

Note your reasons for quitting and then fortify them by searching the internet for as much useful information as you can find. Information is power. The more you know about the task at hand, the less hold the nicotine monster will have over you.

Once you have the desired information, buy a ’stop smoking program’ that addresses your concerns about quitting. Make sure the program is a step-by-step guide that gives you the resolve to beat this nasty habit.

Also, look for a stop smoking program that addresses your concerns about quitting and then purchase it. Make sure, it is not the one that makes tall claims; they are not true. Buy the one that appeals to your wants and needs and gives you the determination to beat this nasty habit.

Buying a program and then leaving it in the package will do nothing other than keep you smoking because you have a stop smoking kit available that you will ‘get to someday’. Someday is too late. Get the information you need - order a program - and use it. You’ll be glad you did.

You’ll be glad you did because it is the first step that is the most difficult. Once, you have taken the first step you will sail through the rest of the process.

Best of luck,

Darren Warmuth
